This Saturday, Game Changer Wrestling makes its Alabama debut with the event entitled GCW Take a Picture. This event is set to take place at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville. The venue in question is one of the most notable in the city, often used for concerts, exhibits, and other showcases. However, it’s this weekend when it will become the hotspot for independent wrestling, featuring many names that GCW fans are familiar with. Are you planning on attending? Tickets are still available, though the action can also be watched via FITE+; further information regarding both can be found below. Here’s what to know before the opening bell.
Card for GCW Take a Picture
- Gringo Loco vs. Arez
- Blake Christian vs. Cabana Man Dan
- Allie Katch vs. Cole Radrick
- Tony Deppen vs. Adam Priest
- Sawyer Wreck vs. Billie Starkz
- Marko Stunt vs. Mike Jackson
- GCW World Tag Team Championship: Los Macizos (Ciclope and Miedo Extremo) vs. Jordan Oliver and Nick Wayne
Cabana Man Dan Returns to GCW
Set to compete at GCW Take a Picture is Blake Christian, who’s become something of an antagonistic future in Game Changer Wrestling as of late. This seemed to stem from GCW Homecoming this past summer, when he took to the mic and cut what many considered to be a questionable, at best, promo. Since then, Christian’s attitude has become more volatile, even to the point when, at Save Me earlier this month, he bludgeoned Leon Slater with a steel chair. Where this path of rage will take “Air Blake” next remains to be seen, but this Saturday, he’s set to go head-to-head with the returning Cabana Man Dan. A fixture of the Alabama independent scene, he last appeared for GCW all the way back in 2020, competing in the Clusterf*ck Battle Royal at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 4. Boasting over 2 decades of experience, “CMD” has captured gold in many organizations, New South Pro Wrestling being the most recent, capturing the company’s world and tag team titles. Dan has the experience advantage heading into this match, but it will be enough against a fiery competitor the likes of Christian?
The Matriarch Clashes With Space Jesus
In women’s action, at GCW Take a Picture, Sawyer Wreck battles Billie Starkz. This won’t be the first time they’ve faced off, either; this past June, at New Wave Pro Wrestling’s No Hesitation event, Starkz bested Wreck in under a minute. Despite a controversial outcome, it seemed to pave the way for a more competitive encounter between the two. On paper, this looks to be one of the more promising matches on the card. Also known as “The Matriarch of Mayhem,” Wreck is a deathmatch specialist, having competed in such tournaments as last year’s Nick Gage Invitational 7. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old “Space Jesus” Starkz is among the most promising stars on the independent scene. This is evidenced by such credentials as her current standing as the reigning Black Label Pro Heavyweight Champion. Which of these women’s wrestlers on the rise will leave the Von Braun Center with a victory?
The Underdog vs. The Grizzled Veteran
Another interesting match to keep an eye on heading into GCW Take a Picture pits the diminutive Marko Stunt against the venerable “Action” Mike Jackson. Many wrestling fans will best know Stunt for his time in All Elite Wrestling, competing in solo action and as part of Jurassic Express alongside former AEW World Tag Team Champions “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry and Luchasaurus. Though Stunt never captured gold in AEW himself, his ability to take copious amounts of punishments and come back for more made him an endearing underdog to many. Such an underdog quality is part and parcel of Jackson’s career as well, racking up more losses than victories since breaking into professional wrestling during the 1970s. Despite this, Jackson became a reliable competitor and even made multiple GCW appearances over the past few years, once picking up a shocking victory over Joey Janela. Needless to say, a match between Stunt and Jackson can go either way; this fact alone makes it an attraction heading into the show this Saturday.
GCW Take a Picture will take place in Huntsville, Alabama on January 21, 2023.
