Athena Defends Her Title
This will not be the first time Willow Nightingale has had a shot at Athena and the ROH Women’s World Title. On the March 9th edition of Ring of Honor television, Athena successfully defended the title against Willow which is no doubt weighing on the mind of the challenger. The two recently met in the Women’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament. That time, Willow picked up the win over Athena. This not only knocked Athena out of the tournament which Willow would go on to win, it also ended Athena’s win streak. This is no doubt weighing on the mind of Athena.
This third match will have high stakes and will be under the bright lights of Death Before Dishonor 2023. Athena has been on a mean streak that took her to the title and has helped her successfully defend it. Willow could not be more opposite with her bright and cheery attitude that makes fans dance as she makes her way to the ring. Don’t let this attitude fool you. When the bell rings Willow delivers hard-hitting offensive maneuvers. Willow is coming into the match with momentum, but that loss from earlier this year still weighs on her mind. Will a new champion leave New Jersey? Find out this weekend.
Who Will Claudio Face?
Claudio Castagnoli is coming into this match fresh off of a grueling Blood and Guts match on Dynamite this past Wednesday. He was expecting to take on ROH original and legend Mark Briscoe. That match was made following Eddie Kingston’s win on July 5th over KENTA to win the STRONG Openweight Championship. Kingston encouraged Mark Briscoe to challenge for the belt and continue the legacy of his late brother Jay Briscoe. The match was made official, but Briscoe suffered a knee injury and had to be pulled from the match.
Now Claudio is waiting for a challenger to be announced. Coming off of the physical Blood and Guts match which he was part of from the beginning, and not knowing who to prepare for, things are not looking great for Claudio. Claudio has never backed down from a challenge and this Friday will be no different. Whoever steps into the ring against Claudio will have their work cut out for them.
