Best WWE Matches of the Month: February 2021

Best WWE Matches of the Month

Every month, our own Scott Edwards compiles his own list of the best WWE matches of each month. From Raw, SmackDown, and NXT, the options are seemingly endless. The matches will include ones you may not think about as well as ones you hear about on social media as soon as they finish. PPV or TV, these matches will be the best of the best from the previous month of WWE action and will now receive a rating out of the traditional 5 stars. (DISCLAIMER: This list is subjective and is compiled exclusively by Scott Edwards; there will obviously be matches he may have missed that you may feel deserve credit – we encourage you to list some of your best WWE matches of the month in the comments section below to help add to the list!)

The first-ever women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic came to a conclusion at NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day and saw both teams go all in to be known as the winner. Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon formed a team while Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez came in as a true team familiar with each other. Both teams created magic in the ring that night, giving all they had. It was Kai and Gonzalez who walked out the winners, a spot they rightfully earned. Make sure to check this one out.

NXT North American Championship: Johnny Gargano (c) vs. KUSHIDA (NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day, 2/14/21)

MSK and The Grizzled Young Veterans are two of the best tag teams in the world, so their match to win the 2021 men’s Dusty Cup seemed to be an instant classic. They reminded NXT fans what tag team wrestling could be as the bruising style of Zack Gibson and James Drake perfectly meshed with the high-flying of Nash Carter and Wes Lee. These two teams put it all on the line and it was MSK who remained undefeated and won the entire tournament, leading to a second straight year of GYV coming up short. This tag team match was so good that you not only should go out of your way to watch it but maybe watch it again because of how incredible the action was.

MATCH OF THE MONTH: Johnny Gargano has not been himself at NXT TakeOver events since becoming a heel in 2020. Something wasn’t clicking as his matches were good but nowhere close to being great. Well, enter his match for the NXT North American Championship with KUSHIDA. It felt like “Johnny TakeOver” was back while KUSHIDA had his chance to finally shine on NXT’s biggest stage. Back and forth these two fighters went with near falls that would have you on the edge of your seat. Gargano ultimately came out the winner and retained his title, but this was a win for KUSHIDA. He finally brought the version of himself everyone was hoping to see. Not only is this the match of the month, but the match of the year for WWE through two months.

SmackDown Elimination Chamber (Elimination Chamber, 2/21/21)

The Elimination Chamber PPV can be hit or miss at times, as the Chamber match is so difficult to predict or imagine. However, when you put all elite talent into one match to put on a show, you have a good chance of making a classic. And that’s what WWE did when SmackDown had their’s to decide who would face Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship that same night. The eliminations were creative, the action was excellent, and the winner was perfect. Daniel Bryan walked out the winner of the match after starting it. This marked his third win in the Chamber, tying him with John Cena for second all-time. Check this out as a fan of chaos and quality wrestling.
