One positive note out of the pandemic era of pro wrestling in 2020 was the undeniable break out of the Black wrestling, LGBTQIA+ and Women’s wrestling community, from wrestlers to promotions, to feature events and beyond. It’s continuing in 2021, with the hugely successful LGBTQAI+ event, Cassandro Cup, in April, to Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) WrestleMania Shows like For The Culture, EFFY’s Big Gay Brunch and Allie Kat’s Real Hot Girl Sh*t this past week, and now a new promotion called Black Girl Magik has not only revealed themselves on Social Media but have announced their first show, Black Girl Magik, will take place on June 26, 2021, in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey. Black Girl Magik will be a wrestling show focused solely on Women of Color, and the latest women’s promotion to join the U.S. indie scene alongside the likes of SHIMMER, Shine Wrestling, Queens of Combat (QOC), and Mission Pro Wrestling.

If that news wasn’t exciting enough, on Monday they also announced their first-ever main event and it’s a huge one. Trish Adora, one of 2020’s breakout superstars, will be defending her Pan Afrikan World Diaspora Championship in the headliner against none other than former 2x WWE Women’s Champion and wrestling legend Jazz. Trish Adora won the title, after breaking in with the Florida indie circuit in 2016, working for the likes of Generation Championship Wrestling (GenCW), American Combat Wrestling (ACW), and Pro Wrestling 2.0. In 2018, she won the GenCW Women’s Championship and held it for 762-days, and in 2019, broke out to other companies like Hoodslam on the West Coast and QOC, Shine Wrestling, and more. She made her UK debut with Pro Wrestling EVE in the fall of 2019. In 2018, she faced Kairi Sane on an episode of NXT and in 2019, made her Ring of Honor debut on an ROH Future of Honor show. In February of 2020, she won the Pan Afrikan World Diaspora Championship with F1ght Club in Washington, DC, defeating ROH’s O’Shay Edwards, Eel O’Neal, Mr. Grim, and Darius Carter in the one-day tournament. Since then, she’s debuted with GCW and Beyond Wrestling and continues to be one of the fastest rising stars in the U.S. circuit. But while one star is on her meteoric ascent, another is wrapping her orbit around the ring up. This year, Jazz announced that she planned to officially retire from the ring at the end of 2021 and has been on a retirement tour since. She had a stint with IMPACT Wrestling that began in late 2020 and recently ended in a career vs title match against Deonna Purrazzo for the IMPACT Knockouts title at IMPACT Hardcore Justice this past weekend, ending her run with the company. But she’s still got the rest of the year to close out her career with some final dream matches – and this is definitely one of them.
