ATP Acapulco Day 3 Predictions – Including Rafael Nadal vs Nick Kyrgios

The Abierto Mexicano in Acapulco boasts an outstanding order of play on the third day. Almost every match is a blockbuster and the fans are surely in for a real treat.

ATP Acapulco Day 3 Predictions

Stan Wawrinka vs Steve Johnson

Wawrinka, who reached the final in Rotterdam earlier this month, is enjoying a resurgence of late as he looks to get back to the upper echelons of the game. The Swiss was utterly imperious in his victory over Ryan Harrison in the first round in Acapulco and will be hoping to keep the good form going. Johnson, in contrast, has not had the best of starts to 2019 and it took him four tournaments to get his first win. These two have played three times before with Wawrinka getting the better of Johnson in two of the encounters, although the American claimed the win in their last match. But expect the powerful Swiss to extend his advantage in their head-to-head by making the quarterfinals.

David Ferrer vs Alexander Zverev

The Spaniard is a legend in South America – winning five titles on the continent, including four at this very event. Sadly for fans of the warrior, this may be his last match in South America. Zverev is the second seed in Acapulco and he lived up to the hype with a destructive first-round performance against Alexei Popyrin. This tournament is the German’s first since the Australian Open, after weeks of injury struggles. Ferrer will look to capitalise on Zverev’s lack of match play, but the 21-year-old will surely be too strong for the veteran.

Rafael Nadal vs Nick Kyrgios

This is, without a doubt, the match of the day as the talented pair battle for a place in the last eight. Nadal is competing for the first time since his run to the Australian Open final, but looked impressive in his first-round victory over Mischa Zverev. Kyrgios has not had a stellar year by his standards, although he looked dialled in as he dismantled Andreas Seppi in the first round. The Spaniard leads the head-to-head 3-2, however, they are tied at 1-1 on hard courts. The Australian will look to impose his flashy game on the Spaniard and Nadal may not have the answers considering it is just his second tournament of the season.

Prediction: Kyrgios in 3
