Palermo Ladies Open Day 3 Predictions Including Fiona Ferro vs Giulia Gatto-Monticone

Palermo Fiona Ferro

Day 3 in Palermo marks the start of the round of 16. Tamara Zidansek vs Liudmila Samsonova looks to be a battle between two quality young players, while we will also see 2019 Prague champion Jil Teichmann looking to reach another quarterfinal on the European Clay. Recent Lausanne champion Fiona Ferro will also be in action seeking to improve upon recent clay-court success on the WTA Tour.

Palermo Ladies Open Day 3 Predictions

Tamara Zidansek vs Liudmila Samsonova

Head to head: 1-0 Samsonova

This matchup brings in two young players looking to make a mark on the WTA. Tamara Zidansek is the higher-ranked player, but Liudimila Samsonova does have a three-set win against her earlier this year in Qatar. Their earlier match was on a hard court while this match will be on clay. This should favor Tamara Zidansek who has the superior record on clay this year.

Jil Teichmann vs Gabriela Ce

Head to head: No history

Jil Teichmann is ranked over 200 places above her opponent Gabriela Ce. While Gabriela Ce did well to get through the qualifying rounds and triumph in the first round, she will be facing higher-level competition. On top of that, her first-round match was a lengthy two and a half-hour encounter. Jil Teichmann has won a title this year on the red dirt in Prague and will be hungry for another.

Alize Cornet vs Anna-Lena Friedsam

Head to head: No History

Cornet did well to battle back against a tough opponent in Martina Trevisan. After a long week in Laussane and losing the first set in a tie-break, it would have been easy to throw in the towel here in Palermo. However, she displayed some real grit and should fancy her chances against Anna-Lena Friedsam. Not to underestimate Anna-Lena Friedsam, as she had a quality straight sets victory over Stefanie Voegele, but Cornet’s combination of match toughness and experience should make her the favorite.

Fiona Ferro  vs Giulia Gatto-Monticone

Head to head: 1-0 Ferro

These two played a very competitive match in the Czech Republic in their only meeting. After a tough first set, Ferro flipped the script to finish with a scoreline of 2-6 6-2 6-2. That match was on clay and could be a precursor for what to expect tomorrow. Fiona Ferro has been playing at a very high level of late, winning in Laussane over Alize Cornet. Giulia Gatto-Monticone should be fresh after a day off and a short first-round match due to her opponent retiring. Expect these two to again go the distance.
Prediction: Ferro in 3
