The 2021 Barcelona Open quarterfinal matches are all set. There have been plenty of great matches thus far, and the quarterfinals look like they will not disappoint. There will definitely be some great matches and a surprise in the makings. There are seven seeded players of the remaining eight, which promises to give us high quality tennis. Here are the quarterfinals of the 2021 Barcelona Open.
ATP Barcelona Open Quarterfinals
Jannik Sinner vs Andrey Rublev
No doubt about it, this match will be a great one indeed. Both of these players are the future of tennis. Andrey Rublev has demonstrated in the past that he is a serious threat to anyone on any surface. The same can be said about the young Italian teenager, who comes from an appearance in the Miami Open final.
In their head-to-head, the Russian leads it as they only met last year in Vienna, Austria. However, the match did not conclude as the Italian retired from the match. Clearly, this time around it will be different as both players come fit and will play on a different surface. Andrey Rublev has just lost one set to Albert Ramos Viñolas in the previous round. Notably, Jannik Sinner has yet to drop a set thus far. Although this may be true, it will be difficult to maintain that as the Russian is playing impeccable.
All things considered, this match promises to jump start the day as a great one. Each player will look to reach the semifinals and continue their impressive form–especially Andrey Rublev, who reached the final at the Monte-Carlo Masters.
Felix Auger Aliassime vs Stefanos Tsitsipas
Now this match on paper looks like a thriller indeed. Both young players are showcasing their skills on the clay courts, especially the Greek player. Stefanos Tsitsipas comes from winning the Monte-Carlo Masters tournament and looked great the whole week. He did not lose a set on that tournament and is en route to doing the same in the Barcelona Open.
On the other side, the young Canadian has lost one set and that came in his first match of the tournament against Lorenzo Musetti. Since then, he has only lost eight games in his previous matches and took out fellow countryman, Denis Shapovalov, in the previous round.
Stefanos Tsitsipas leads the head-to-head with three wins in their five meetings. Last time they met, it was an incredible match in Acapulco. The Greek took the match in three hard fought sets. This will be the first time that they will not play in a hard-court surface. All things considered, this match will be an amazing one, but the young Greek looks like the favorite to win this match in the end.
Rafael Nadal vs Cameron Norrie
The “King of Clay” has been struggling thus far in clay. He lost Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals of the Monte-Carlo Masters. In this tournament, he lost a set in his first two matches. He has not looked like the dominant player in those sets, and that is a concern. However, he will be facing Cameron Norrie, who is not a major threat in clay.
Despite defeating Karen Khachanov, the British player is not the best in clay. He did get the win in the previous round against David Goffin, but the Belgian retired from the match. These two players have met just once and that was this year at the Australian Open. The Spaniard won in three sets and will look to grab another win against the British player.
Diego Schwartzman vs Pablo Carreño Busta
The Argentine comes from defeating Frances Tiafoe in an incredible comeback. Then, he easily defeated Corentin Moutet in straight sets. On the other hand, the Spaniard has yet to drop a set and is looking strong. Then again, he has not faced a tough challenge until now.
In their head-to-head, the series is tied with a win a piece. Both of those meetings were back in 2017. It has been a long time and both players have grown since then. This match looks like an even one no question. Diego Schwartzman is a fighter who doesn’t quit and will fight until the end. The same can be said about Pablo Carreño Busta.
This match promises to be an evenly one and we will see who will try to dictate from the beginning. All in all, it will be a great match to end a fantastic day of tennis in Barcelona.
Fun And Fantastic Matches
These Barcelona Open quarterfinals look like some fun ones. There are all big names in the tennis world, and they will look to battle it out for a place at the semifinals. We will see if the :King of Clay” can be en route to claiming his throne or if he will be shocked. All things considered, the 2021 Barcelona Open quarterfinals promise to have a lot of drama and high quality tennis.
