Emma Raducanu Crushes Sara Sorribes Tormo At US Open

Emma Raducanu in action at the US Open.

British sensation Emma Raducanu has pulled off a sensational win to reach the US Open 4th round. An absolutely stunning display of shot-making saw her annihilate Sara Sorribes Tormo, who was the favourite heading into the match. The young Brit triumphed 6-0 6-1 in a brutal display of attacking tennis.

In one of the most surprising results of the US Open so far, Emma Raducanu has surprised us once again. Sorribes Tormo, the world #41, could barely get into any rallies despite her tenacity and ability to grind down opponents. The shot-making from Raducanu was simply on another level today as she delivered a barrage of stunning winners of both wings.

Heading into the match many saw this as being a step too far for the 18 year-old with the Spaniard having enjoyed a successful season in 2021. However, Raducanu looked the better player throughout. She quickly got herself on the front foot in the return games, dominating the points from the bassline with scintillating groundstrokes powering through her opponent’s defences.

The unrelenting ferocity of Raducanu didn’t let up, either. The Brit was an immovable force on serve and was just as good on her returns. In no time at all, she had won the first set 6-0. Surely she couldn’t continue like this?

Well, the absolute thrashing didn’t stop after the first set, with the 18 year-old crushing her way to 5-0 lead and earning herself a match point on Sorribes Tormo’s serve. The Spaniard, to her credit, held serve admirably amidst the constant firepower that Raducanu was reigning down.

Emma Raducanu served the match out with nerves of steel, sealing an unbelievable 6-0 6-1 victory. The British sensation blasted 23 errors throughout the match, and now reaches the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the second time in as many appearances.

The rising star is playing some outstanding tennis, and will face the winner of Ash Barty and Shelby Rogers. Though her next round is big step up in quality, the youngster will no doubt have plenty more surprises in store for us.
