French Open Day 3 – Women’s Best Bets Featuring Taylor Townsend vs Caroline Garcia

Caroline Garcia of France returns a shot to Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium during the BNP Paribas Open at the WTA Indian Wells Open.

The remainder of the first round French Open matches will be competed on Tuesday at Stade Roland Garros. Another busy day is scheduled across the famous grounds in Paris, there’s one bet in particular that stands out on day three. Let’s take a look at some of the potential best bets of the day on the women’s side of the draw.

French Open Day 3 – Women’s Best Bets

Tamara Zidansek vs Claire Liu

Tamara Zidansek achieved the greatest result of her career when she reached the semifinals at Roland Garros in 2021. 12 months later she is starting as an outsider in the opening round against Claire Liu. There’s a reason for that, Liu is in fantastic form, having won the WTA 125K title in Paris a few weeks ago and then reaching the final in Rabat just a few days ago. Nevertheless, this is an extremely important match for Zidansek, the majority of her ranking points are on the line. Fatigue could become an issue for Liu who has played a lot of tennis over the last few weeks. I see some value with a desperate Zidansek is in this situation.

Daria Kasatkina vs Rebecca Peterson

Rebecca Peterson’s recent form isn’t good, but I still don’t see Daria Kasatkina as such an overwhelming favorite in this matchup on a clay court. There are a lot of similarities in the way that these two play, that situation can lead to a close match, and sometimes even an upset. I think Peterson has a better chance in this matchup than the odds suggest. Kasatkina isn’t the most trustworthy player in this situation, Peterson can cause her some problems if she’s on her game.

Madison Brengle vs Mihaela Buzarnescu

Mihaela Buzarnescu fought her way through qualifying in Paris, I see some slight value with the Romanian in her main draw opener with Madison Brengle. I’d say that clay is Brengle’s worst surface, it makes her shots less effective and puts more strain on her body. Mihaela Buzarnescu has the weapons to control this matchup, the fact that she won three matches in qualifying suggests that she’s playing well enough to execute. I see enough value with Buzarnescu as a slight underdog.

Taylor Townsend vs Caroline Garcia

At first glance, the odds for this matchup were probably the most surprising of all first round matchups on the women’s side of the draw. Taylor Townsend only just returned from a lengthy time away from the game, she competed in three ITF events where she made two quarterfinals and won one title. That’s a good start, but I certainly wouldn’t have her as the favourite against Caroline Garcia in the opening round at Roland Garros, even if Garcia continues to be a disappointment. This matchup on a clay court favours Garcia, especially in Paris where she has the crowd on her side. I’d expect Garcia to win this match.

Recommended Selections:
Caroline Garcia ML – 3 units @ +147

Recommended selections are based on a 5-unit betting system where 1 unit is a minimum stake, and 5 units is the maximum stake.
