It’s time for the remaining six first-round matches at the 2022 ATP Naples Cup after a delayed start in southern Italy. As always, we here at LWOT are offering our predictions for every match on the schedule, including Sebastian Baez vs Lorenzo Sonego. But who will advance?
ATP Naples Day 2 Predictions
Roberto Carballes Baena vs Nicolas Jarry
Head-to-head: Carballes Baena 4-3 Jarry
Roberto Carballes Baena and Nicolas Jarry have already met seven times on the pro circuit with the Spaniard claiming four of those matches. All of them have been on clay though. Jarry has always had more success across the board, mostly as his serve is a weapon regardless of the conditions. Carballes Baena has really improved his hard-court arsenal though and proved that by beating Matteo Berrettini last week. It’s tight, but maybe the Chilean’s attacking arsenal proves vital.
Prediction: Jarry in 3

Laslo Djere vs Borna Gojo
Head-to-head: first meeting
Laslo Djere had an amazing run at Winston-Salem two months ago, but other than that he’s been very uneven. Borna Gojo managed to make the main draw from the qualifying, but wasn’t really tested as he faced Stefano Napolitano and benefitted from Jozef Kovalik’s retirement. The Croat’s big game can certainly put Djere under pressure, but he’s rarely able to produce over an extended patch of play. This is a winnable match for him though and he should have his chances.
Prediction: Djere in 3

Marton Fucsovics vs Zhang Zhizhen
Head-to-head: first meeting
Zhang Zhizhen needs two wins in the main draw here to break the top 100 (and become the first Chinese player to do so). The 26-year-old has been playing with insane confidence lately and his powerful ball-striking is truly exceptional. He does have a bit of a choking tendency though. However, strictly tennis-wise, it’s not that close at the moment. Marton Fucsovics has had his fair share of issues this year and isn’t playing his best of late.
Prediction: Zhang in 2
