The Sunshine Double continues at WTA Miami, and we at LWOT analyze and predict four of the matches billed for the second day, including Marie Bouzkova vs Lin Zhu. Who do you think will advance?

WTA Miami Day 2 Predictions

Viktoriya Tomova vs Tamara Korpatsch

Head–to–Head: Tomova 0 vs 4 Korpatsch

Two closely ranked players will slug it out for a place in the second round and it won’t be easy to pick a winner even though Tamara Korpatsch has won all their previous four meetings. However, the German is lucky to still be here after being routed by Maria Timofeeva in the qualifiers. Based on that performance, luck won’t be enough to take her past against a much-improved Viktoriya Tomova.

Prediction: Tomova in 2

Erika Andreeva vs Elina Avanesyan

Head–to–Head: First Meeting

One Russian starlet will, unfortunately, have to exit Miami on their debut and Elina Avanesyan is odds on to be the one. The younger Russian, Erika Andreeva has shown more consistency this season, arriving here on the back of a commendable 17 – 7 win–loss record this year. On the other hand, Avanesyan has just a meager nine matches under her belt for the season, losing more than she has won. This should be Andreeva’s match to lose.

Prediction: Andreeva in 3

Shelby Rogers vs Linda Fruhvirtova

Head–to–Head: First Meeting

Shelby Rogers is still looking to gather some steam as she finds her way back into the game after a lengthy layoff. Her win in the WTA Austin qualifiers was quickly eclipsed by another injury in her very next match and it remains to be seen what version of her will step on the court against Linda Fruhvirtova – a player who hasn’t lost consecutive matches since January. Even with the home crowd cheering her on, this will be a difficult hurdle for the American to cross.

Prediction: Fruhvirtova in 2.

Marie Bouzkova vs Lin Zhu

Head–to–Head: Bouzkova 1 vs 1 Zhu

Lin Zhu hasn’t won in six attempts despite starting the season on a positive. She hasn’t won a match since defeating Varvara Gracheva in Doha and this must feel like a bounce-back spot for her against an opponent who has only managed to win twice in eight matches. They’ve traded their head-to-head but Zhu must want this more to regain her confidence.

Prediction: Zhu in 3
