Dominic Thiem French Open

ATP Tour tennis continues on Day 1 at the BMW Open in Munich. The top match from this day is Alejandro Moro Canas vs Dominic Thiem. Who do you think will come out on top?

ATP Munich Day 1 Predictions

Vit Kopriva vs Jack Draper

Head-to-head: First meeting

This is the first meeting between to the two men, coming in the first round on the clay in Munich. Jack Draper is coming off a tight 3rd set tie-break defeat to World #8 Hubert Hurkacz in the first round of Monte Carlo last week; his time there could have been very different. Vit Kopriva is something of an unknown quantity at the top level but with a career record of 236-151 on clay, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that he could cause an upset.
Prediction: Draper in 2

Max Hans Rehberg vs Alex Michelsen

Head-to-head: First meeting

This is a very tough match to call with both men struggling for form coming into this and both having below average results on clay. Michelsen comfortably lost to Moutet 6-1 6-3 in Monte Carlo qualifying and is 0-2 on the clay this year. The german Max Hans Rehberg – ranked a lowly 479 – has a composed 14-7 win-loss record in 2024 and is 0-1 on the clay. Maybe the home crowd can help him out in this one. I’ll go for him in 3.
Prediction: Rehberg in 3

Francesco Passaro vs Rudolf Molleker

Head-to-head: First meeting

Another first time meeting. Ranked 182nd, Molleker begins his campaign in Munich following a 6-7(1) 6-1 6-1 second round loss to Kukushkin at the Madrid Challenger on April 11th. Passaro advanced to the first round after securing victories over Yannik Kelm (6-3 6-2) and Andrea Pellegrino (6-3 6-4) in the qualifiers. During his straight-sets triumph against Pellegrino, Passaro accumulated 80 points compared to Pellegrino’s 60 hitting an impressive 36 winners.
Prediction: Passaro in 3

Alejandro Moro Canas vs Dominic Thiem

Head-to-head: First meeting

Coming from Monte Carlo, where he lost 6-1 6-2 to Roberto Bautista-Agut in the qualifications, Dominic Thiem will be looking for a much better showing in Munich despite his low expectations at the moment. Despite his career clay record of 481-273 he has struggled so far this year on the dirt. In qualification Alejandro Moro Canas has been strong on serve and got some strong match results under his belt including a 6-4 6-2 win over Nerman Fatic.
Prediction: Thiem in 2
