Caroline Wozniacki vs Leylah Annie Fernandez
Jordan Reynolds: This should be an entertaining match between two players who have played well on grass so far this year. But I’m backing the recent Eastbourne International champion Fernandez to prevail. The ability she has shown to take the ball early and move to the net in recent matches might be what makes the difference. Fernandez in 2
Yesh Ginsburg: Caroline Wozniacki sent a message to the Tour with her Round 1 domination of Alycia Parks. She can send another one, that she’s a real threat here, by repeating against Leylah Fernandez. Wozniacki in 2
Jelena Ostapenko vs Daria Snigur
Jordan: Ostapenko produced one of the best first-round performances seen so far this year at Wimbledon against Ajla Tomljanovic. Admittedly, the Latvian is often inconsistent from match-to-match, but even some of that level from her previous contest should be enough here. Snigur played well against Oceane Dodin in the last round, but Ostapenko is a much tougher challenge. Ostapenko in 2
Yesh: Ostapenko has never loved the grass, but she’s one of the biggest hitters in the game. She can be quite wild when off, but when her game is solid no one can keep up with her. Ostapenko in 2
Dalma Galfi vs Danielle Collins
Jordan: This will be a very tough test for Collins. Grass is her weakest surface, and Galfi has been playing some very good tennis on the surface this year. Overall, I still favour the American’s firepower to prevail, but an upset in this one would not be a major surprise. Collins in 3
Yesh: Danielle Collins has also never loved the grass, but she seems determined in her last Wimbledon. She did well to take out Clara Tauson in Round 1, and gets an easier matchup in Round 2. Collins in 2
Elina Svitolina vs Jule Niemeier
Jordan: Svitolina came through a high-quality affair in three sets against Magda Linette in the last round. Despite this, I think Niemeier will beat the Ukrainian. She thrashed Viktorija Golubic in the last round, and Svitolina was also struggling slightly with an injury in the deciding set against Linette. She does not get a day off to rest that problem, which may also be a decisive factor. Niemeier in 2
Yesh: Elina Svitolina looks unbeatable on grass at times. She might not be as big a threat to win as at times in the past, but she definitely can go very deep here. Svitolina in 2
