Davis Cup – World Group Teams Men
Netherlands – Brazil: 12.09.2024 15:00 CEST
H2H: first meeting
1st potential matchup:
Tallon Griekspoor – Thiago Monteiro
Tallon and Thiago are the best ranked players for the Netherlands and Brazil. This meeting will be played indoors on hard. Griekspoor reached the third round of the US Open, where he lost against Dimitrov in straight sets. So far this season, Tallon has had some solid results, but has been inconsistent lately on the tour. Yesterday, Tallon lost against Bergs in three sets. Monteiro spent most of his season playing on the clay courts. He had some solid results at the challenger tour level, which cemented his top 100 spot. Monteiro never had any success on the indoor courts. Yesterday, Monteiro lost his match against Arnaldi in three tight sets.
We believe that Grieskpoor will be a better player on the court tomorrow. He loves to play on the fast indoor courts. Monteiro is a solid clay court player, but we believe that he will have problems on such fast courts.
That being said, we believe that Griekspoor will get the first win for the Netherlands.
2nd potential matchup:
Botic Van de Zandschulp – Joao Fonseca
Botic and Joao are the second best ranked players for the Netherlands and Brazil. Van de Zandschulp reached the third round of the US Open, where he lost against Draper in straight sets. En route to the third round, Van de Zandschulp upset Shapovalov and Alcaraz in straight sets, and surprised everyone. Botic won his match yesterday against Collignon in straight sets as we predicted. Fonseca is a young Brazilian talent who loves to play on the clay courts. He failed to qualify at the US Open this year. So far this season, Fonseca has had his biggest results on clay. However, he also won a challenger title on the hard court in Lexington one month ago. Yesterday, against Italy, Joao lost his opening match against Berrettini.
We believe that Van de Zandschulp will dominate from the very start, and get the second win for the Netherlands. He is overall a better and more experienced player than Fonseca.
3rd potential matchup:
Haase/Koolhof – Melo/Matos
We expect the Netherlands and Brazil to play their doubles matches like this. Robin Haase has played with a couple of different doubles partners this season. Koolhof is playing with Mektic right now. They reached the quarterfinals in New York, where they lost against Lammonst and Withrow in three tight sets. Melo and Matos have been playing together for the last couple of months. They had already won one title together, which was in Stuttgart on grass.
Haase and Koolhof are one of the best doubles players at the Davis Cup. We believe that their experience will prevail in this match, and that they will close out this matchup, and get the third win for the Netherlands.
Best Bet to Make
We believe that both the Netherlands will win both their singles matches. The doubles match could go either way, but we still think that Haase and Koolhof will be the better players on the court.
That being said, Netherlands winning 3-0 is a value bet.
