ATP 250 Chengdu quarterfinals
Hanfmann – Martinez: 22.09.2024 09:30 CEST
H2H: 2-1
Yannick Hanfmann has won four of his last five matches. Last week in the Davis Cup, Hanfmann won both of his matches, and helped Germany to qualify for the knockout stage. Here in Chengdu, Yannick defeated Mochizuki in straight sets in the first round of the tournament. Yannick served well, and lost his serve only once. Today, in the second round, Hanfmann defeated Mpetshi Perricard in three tight sets as we predicted. Once again, Hanfmann served well, offering only two breakpoints.
Pablo Martinez has lost three of his last five matches. Last week in the Davis Cup, Martinez lost his match against Popyrin in straight sets. The Spaniard loves to play on the slow clay courts, where he had his biggest results. However, he usually underperforms under faster conditions such as this one. Here in Chengdu, Pablo defeated Vukic in straight sets in the first round of the tournament. So far this season, Martinez has won the challenger title in Girona on clay, and reached the final in Estoril, where he lost against Hurkacz in straight sets as we predicted.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, this should be a 50-50 match. However, we believe that Hanfmann is a better hard-court player than Martinez. Yannick played great tennis here in Chengdu, and we believe that he will continue in the same fashion.
That being said, Hanfmann winning is a value bet.

Shang – Bublik: 22.09.2024 11:00 CEST
H2H: 1-1
Juncheng Shang has won four of his last five matches. Here in Chengdu, Shang defeated Nishikori in the first round as we predicted. After that, Juncheng defeated Safiullin in three tight sets as we predicted. Shang is looking to get into the top 50 in the rankings, so he is hoping for a solid result in front of his own crowd. Shang has been consistent throughout the whole season. He is still only 19 years old, and with such talent, we believe that he will eventually become a top 10 player.
Alexander Bublik has lost four of his last five matches. The last match he played before this tournament was in the Davis Cup, where he lost against Moeller in three sets. Bublik looked terrible on the court. However, here in Chengdu, Alexander showed solid tennis in his opening match against Gomez, winning in straight sets as we predicted. Bublik is still a top 30 player, but if he keeps playing like this, soon enough, he will drop out of the top 50. Last year in Chengdu, Bublik lost his opening match against Giron in straight sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Shang is the slight favorite in this matchup. We believe that he should have been a bigger favorite. Bublik is in terrible form, and we believe that he will have no chance against Shang, who has been playing well throughout the whole season.
That being said, Shang winning is a value bet.
