ATP Vienna Quarterfinal Predictions Including Alexander Zverev vs Lorenzo Musetti

Lorenzo Musetti

No. 1 seed Alexander Zverev is the only former champion remaining in the draw, while No. 2 seed Alex de Minaur will be hoping to claim this trophy and massively increase his chances at qualifying for the ATP Finals. But there are also six other players still in contention and they’re all hungry to take down the favorites. Who do you think will make the final four?

ATP Vienna Quarterfinal Predictions

Tomas Machac vs Jack Draper

Head-to-head: Machac 3-1

Fate is pitting these two against each other again and Tomas Machac has mostly dominated this matchup in the past, except for the US Open where he delivered a pretty atrocious performance out of nowhere. The Czech knows how to use indoor conditions to his advantage and will be attempting to rush Jack Draper here. If he’ll be successful, perhaps he’s the one with a slight edge here. And we know he’s got all the confidence in the world at the moment.
Prediction: Machac in 3

Matteo Berrettini vs Karen Khachanov

Head-to-head: Berrettini 4-0

Last week in Almaty and in the opening round here Karen Khachanov didn’t need to beat a single Top 50 opponent, which left us wondering how much his win streak is worth. But the Russian has now followed it up with the win over Brandon Nakashima. The head-to-head record sounds like it should be an easy win for Matteo Berrettini and yet there’s plenty of uncertainty considering they haven’t faced each other in three years. The Italian had patches of brilliant shotmaking against Frances Tiafoe and having a day of rest should help him recover.
Prediction: Berrettini in 2

Jakub Mensik vs Alex de Minaur

Head-to-head: First meeting

Alex de Minaur is very much in the running for his ATP Finals debut. In fact, he’s guaranteed to be in the Top 8 after this week if he claims the title. But that won’t be easy with the Australian just recovering from an injury and still looking at bit shaky. It’s a bit unclear how Mensik will react to a top-player matchup where he’s the one who has to dictate, most of the clashes he’s been in so far had a different dynamic. But the Czech super-talent seems like he might have a solid shot at the upset here.
Prediction: Mensik in 3

Alexander Zverev vs Lorenzo Musetti

Head-to-head: 1-1

Alexander Zverev won this event three years ago and hasn’t been pushed in this campaign yet. The German had been looking a bit fatigued with this season of late and not getting a tough workout early in the week should help. Vienna is a slow enough indoor court that Lorenzo Musetti can execute his game, but these are still conditions where the Zverev serve gets to shine. He’s just more comfortable at this venue and should be the favorite.
Prediction: Zverev in 2
