The first two rounds at the Rolex Paris Masters have breezed past, and now it’s time for third-round action. Eight brilliant matches are scheduled on Thursday, promising exciting tennis. This article features world No.3 Alexander Zverev, who will face, Arthur Fils. As always, we here at LWOT will offer our predictions for every match on the slate for day 4. But who will advance to the quarterfinals?
ATP Paris Day 4 Predictions
Jordan Thompson vs Adrian Mannarino
Head-to-Head: Thompson 3-5 Mannarino
Jordan Thompson got the better of Casper Ruud once more and registered another top-10 win. Both players hit numerous unforced errors, but Thompson will take the win. Adrian Mannarino’s brilliant win against Tommy Paul in the first round presented him with an easier match on paper and he took it with both hands. Mannarino lost the opening set against Zizou Bergs but looked in control after that. These two have met many times with Mannarino having the upper hand slightly. However, Thompson has edged out the matches on hard courts and is my pick in this encounter.
Prediction: Thompson in 3
Karen Khachanov vs Alexei Popyrin
Head-to-Head: Khachanov 3-1 Popyrin
Karen Khachanov was very impressive on his serve returns, breaking Giovanni Mpetshi Perrricard’s serve three times. Khachanov’s form has dramatically changed since the indoor season began, and he is playing excellent tennis. But he has played a lot of matches recently and already played two three-setters this week, which won’t help against Alexei Popyrin, who upset, Daniil Medvedev in the second round. The Australian player blew hot and cold in the match and his backhand was leaking errors. But this is a big win for Popyrin and should give him lots of confidence heading into the third round. Khachanov has a great record against Popyrin but the Aussie is a much-improved player.
Prediction: Popyrin in 3
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Francisco Cerundolo
Head-to-Head: Tsitsipas 1-0 Cerundolo
This is a rematch of last week’s first-round match in Basel, where Tsitsipas edged it in a deciding set tiebreak. Francisco Cerundolo fought valiantly in that match after a rough start. Cerundolo has been extremely clutch in tiebreaks this week and might need to do so once or twice against Tsitsipas. The Argentinian will be up for the fight as he will want revenge but Tsitsipas looks focused and is playing some good tennis again. This might come down to who can dictate more with the forehand as they both have great ones.
Prediction: Tsitsipas in 3
Alexander Zverev vs Arthur Fils
Head-to-Head: Zverev 2-1 Fils
Alexander Zverev has a tough draw this week at the Paris Masters and did well to win his opening match against Tallon Griekspoor in straight sets. Zverev made a slow start and was not winning any points against Griekspoor. But he did well to hold his serves and got better with each game. However, he can’t afford to make a slow start against the red-hot, Arthur Fils, who defeated him the last time these two met. Fils is full of confidence and is improving with every passing month. The Frenchman has the game to beat Zverev and with the crowd behind him, he will be extra motivated.
Prediction: Fils in 3
