Taylor and Alex are currently the best ranked players for the USA and Australia. The American has won three of his last five matches. In his last match, Taylor lost in the final of the ATP Finals against Sinner in straight sets. This has been the best season of his young career. On the other hand, de Minaur lost four straight matches, and struggled in the ATP Finals. In his last match, Alex lost against Taylor in three sets as we predicted. However, the Australian has also been consistent throughout the whole season and reached his career high of #6 earlier this season.
We believe that Taylor is currently a better player than Alex. He will be fully confident coming into this match after reaching the ATP Finals final last week. We believe that he will dominate in this match and handle the pressure better than the Australian.
That being said, we expect Fritz to get the first win for the USA.
2nd potential matchup:
Paul – Popyrin
Tommy and Alexei are currently the second best ranked players for the USA and Australia. Since winning the title in Stockholm last month, Paul lost both of his opening round matches in Vienna and Paris. In his last match, Paul was upset by Mannarino in Paris, where he lost in straight sets. So far this season, Tommy has had his biggest results on the fast hard courts, such as this one. Alexei Popyrin has lost three of his last five matches. His last match was almost a month ago in Paris, where he was stopped in the 1/8-Finals against Khachanov. This has been the best season of his career. However, he was inconsistent throughout the whole season as well, so he is hard to predict.
We believe that Tommy Paul is currently playing better than Popyrin. Alexei won his biggest title in Montreal. However, since then, the Australian has not had any success. On the other hand, Tommy loves to play on the biggest stage, so we believe that he will get the job done, and get a second win for the USA.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, team USA are the slight favorites in this matchup. We believe that they will perform better under pressure, and get the job done after the first two singles matches. The Americans currently have better singles players than the Australians, so we believe that they will prevail in this matchup. However, if it is going to be 1-1 after the singles, we believe that the Americans will win the doubles and win this meeting. As we already mentioned before, we trust Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz to get the job done and qualify for the semifinals.
That being said, team USA winning is a value bet.
