Second round matchups continue on Wednesday, Day 3 at the inaugural WTA 1000 level event in Guadalajara. There’s a heap of entertaining matchups to look forward to on Day 3, including a pair tough matchups as Ludmila Samsonova faces Aryna Sabalenka and Belinda Bencic takes on Sloane Stephens.

Liudmila Samsonova vs Aryna Sabalenka
H2H: First meeting.
Liudmila Samsonova has been one of the in-form players on tour over the last couple of months and starts as a slight favourite in her first ever meeting with the higher ranked Aryna Sabalenka. Samsonova seems like the more logical choice here, especially having already played a match this week whilst Sabalenka received an opening round bye. However, Sabalenka’s recent form is actually quite strong and I’d say her best tennis is better than Samsonova’s and she might enjoy this matchup.

Katerina Siniakova vs Martina Trevisan
H2H: Siniakova 1-0.
Martina Trevisan has been in horrible form ever since her shock run to the semifinals at Roland Garros earlier this year. Meanwhile, Siniakova is showing some good signs of late with a win over Beatriz Haddad Maia in the previous round. Siniakova easily beat Trevisan on a hard court not too long ago and should be able to do the same here.

Camila Osorio vs Marie Bouzkova
H2H: First meeting.
Camila Osorio did well to sneak past an in-form Ekaterina Alexandrova in the opening round but is unlikely to enjoy a matchup with the far more consistent Marie Bouzkova. Osorio’s form is generally very inconsistent whilst Bouzkova has become one of the more reliable players on tour. Bouzkova is the obvious choice.

Belinda Bencic vs Sloane Stephens
H2H: Stephens 1-0.
Belinda Bencic vs Sloane Stephens is a fun matchup between two talented players. You never quite know what to expect from Stephens, but a good effort is generally expected at a higher level event like this. Nevertheless, Bencic is a better competitor and has a higher base level these days. I’d expect the more disciplined Bencic to get the job done in the end.
